Cedar Creek goes for first place. Ruston High tries to stay alive. That’s the situation confronting city schools this week as the 2012 regular season nears a close.
On Thursday night, the Bearcats (3-5, 0-2) play the first of two crucial contests in District 2-5A when they travel to Natchitoches to play Natchitoches Central at Turpin Stadium on the campus of Northwestern State University.
Ruston needs a win against the Chiefs, plus a victory in its final regular season game at home on Nov. 2 against Pineville.

Tech (6-1, 1-0 Western Athletic) makes just its third appearance in the Associated Press poll in the program’s history. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 23 by the AP two weeks ago leading into the team’s game against then 22nd-ranked Texas A&M, the team’s highest ranking ever.
