Ruston- Lincoln Chamber President resigns

Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce President Scott Terry has resigned. Terry submitted his resignation to the chamber’s board of directors. Judy Copeland, the chamber’s operations manager, has been named the business organization’s interim president.
“We accepted Scott’s resignation with regret, but understand that sometimes changes are necessary,” Aaron Paul, chamber board chairman, said. “The chamber grew under Scott’s leadership and became much more involved in our community. We’ll certainly continue that.”

Wreck shuts down roadway

Rush-hour traffic on Louisiana Highway 33 in Ruston was snarled Tuesday following an accident that occurred shortly after 5 p.m. There were no apparent injuries in the accident at the intersection of Celebrity Drive and Louisiana Highway 33 that caused significant damage to the front ends of a Ford F150 pick-up and a Chevy Silverado pick-up.

Vehicle fire reported Saturday

At approximately 11:50 p.m. April 20, the Lincoln Parish Fire Department, directed by Chief Dennis Ford, responded to a transportation vehicle fire on CCC Road in Simsboro.
The first unit to arrive on scene for Lincoln Parish Fire Department reported that the vehicle was fully involved.
The exact cause of the fire is unknown. The vehicle was not in use at the time of the fire and was parked on open land. There were no personnel injuries reported, and no injuries to vehicle owner reported.

Tech NFL draft count to rise

Louisiana Tech University’s NFL draft ticker is about to move up.
Unless something unforeseen and unexpected happens between now and Friday night, former Bulldogs’ receiving star Quinton Patton will be the school’s all-time draft pick No. 63.
The 2012 Biletnikoff Award nominee, first-unit All-Western Athletic Conference and All-Louisiana selection and Senior Bowl Most Valuable Receiver is scheduled to be chosen in the first three rounds of this year’s draft that kicks off Thursday (7 p.m., CDT, ESPN) from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Bearcats capture victory No. 28

Thanks to strong pitching and steady hitting, Ruston High moved closer to reaching the elusive 30-win plateau on Tuesday night.
David Michael Burkhalter and Garrett Soileau combined for yet another recent shutout by the Bearcats’ pitching staff and BJ Findley registered a home run to lead the offense in a 5-0 victory over Airline High School at the Vikings’ diamond in Bossier City.
Ruston, now 28-5 overall after recently completing District 2-5A action with a title-winning 11 victories against only one defeat, prevailed for the eighth consecutive game.

Bulldogs trip GSU

GRAMBLING — Louisiana Tech University’s bats made some big noise and the Bulldogs avoided a fifth straight loss with a 17-9 victory over Lincoln Parish neighbor Grambling State University at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park on Tuesday night.
The ’Dogs (14-28) totaled 13 hits and had three players finish with two hits each en route to their second win over the Tigers (14-26) in as many tries this season; in an earlier game held in Ruston, Tech was a 6-0 winner.
Tech had a season-high run total, thanks to 16 of the runs being registered in the final five innings.

Lady Techsters host Ole Miss

Louisiana Tech University will host a mid-week non-conference doubleheader today against Southeastern Conference foe Ole Miss, as the Lady Techsters and the Rebels will face off starting at 4 p.m. at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
The Lady Techsters (22-22) and the Rebels (22-29) have met 11 previous times with Ole Miss holding onto a slim 6-5 advantage in the all-time series.

Club news: Caney Lake Good Sammers Club

The Caney Lake Good Sammers decided to “spring” into spring by going to Lincoln Parish Park outside of Ruston on March 20-23. The beautiful dogwoods lined the road that took Kay and Tom Church and Mary and James Dugdale to the campground. When near Ruston, the campers always like to experience the local restaurants. Therefore, they enjoyed burger night at Portico on Wednesday evening.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Troupe Dixie

On May 4, Troupe Dixie will present “Three Amigos” at the Dixie Center for the Arts in Ruston. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo a day early, with a pre-party at 6 p.m., including themed snacks and adult beverages, followed by the comedy “Three Amigos” at 7 p.m. Tickets for the entire evening, including snacks, drinks and movie, are $10.
Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Dixie Box Office or through these ticket outlet partners: Chartreuse Pear and Fine Line Art Supply. “Three Amigos” sponsors include Celebrity Theatres, Marsala Beverage and Super 1 Foods.
