Different people coming together

At the beginning of the year, I was invited, along with others, to share my New Year’s resolution to be put in the Ruston Daily Leader. Part of my resolution is to do more writing. I never imagined that yet another invitation from the Ruston Leader would come asking me to write a monthly column. But, alas, it did, and so here I am writing and sharing with you, and fulfilling part of my resolution. And so my prayer is that my words will lead our thoughts and lives toward God and each other.

Aaron’s donates to the Boys and Girls Club

Aaron’s General Manager, Craig Bass (on the far right), made a donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Central Louisiana that will cover the expenses of its upcoming Youth of the Year program. Aaron’s has agreed to continue its contribution for the program annually.

I’m telling you, folks, God has been so good to me, I often wonder why.
I’ve been a little slow letting some folks know how very much the kind cards, etc, have meant since I saw you last. It could make an old girl homesick, but now I have a real dilemma — I have two homes, and each is important to me.

Malone, Fleming to unite in matrimony

Mr. and Mrs. John R. Malone Jr. of Frisco, Texas, joyfully announce the engagement of their daughter Molly Elise Malone to Louis Richard Fleming IV, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Richard Fleming III of Shreveport.

The wedding will take place on May 11 at Brown Chapel on the campus of Centenary College with the reception to follow at the Silver Lake Ballroom.

Molly is the granddaughter of the late John Malone Sr., and Rae Tatum Malone, both of Homer, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gullatt of Ruston.

Lawson sentenced for theft

After being arrested in July of 2011, Sandra Lawson, of Ruston, was sentenced by the honorable Cynthia T. Woodard for felony theft from the Wesley Chapel Water System, located at 256 Mondy Road in the southwest portion of the parish.
Lawson, who was employed with the water system for approximately 10 years, pleaded guilty to the felony theft charges in January. Woodard handed down a sentence that required Lawson to pay a $1,000 fine, seven years of hard labor — with the first three years to be served without the possibility of suspension and the remaining four to be suspended.

Ready to Jam

More than 80 musicians will come together to showcase their talents when the 14th annual John Simoneaux Memorial Jam sounds in downtown Ruston in late February.
Named in honor of local musician, the late John Simoneaux, the event draws hundreds of music lovers to Ponchatoulas and Sundown Tavern to hear styles of music ranging from blues and country to rock ‘n’ roll and progressive on one of two acoustic or an electric stage.
Simoneaux hailed from the Baton Rouge area and came to Louisiana Tech to study guitar.

Relaying for Life

Fundraiser planning kicks off

The 2013 Relay for Life of Lincoln Parish committee assembled earlier this month at the Ruston Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau to discuss activities and events to be held at this year’s relay in May.
The theme will be centered around the Kentucky Derby and funds raised will go to the American Cancer Society. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up to assist in areas of promotional art and graphics, fundraising and online monitoring. American Cancer Society representative, Priscilla Turner, also asked teams to register as soon as possible to ensure the success of this relay.
