Playing ball with a buddy

Bergeron, Nancy.jpg

Back in September, Edwin Davis had a dream. Not the scary kind that bolts you out of the bed in a cold sweat, but the kind of dream that’s more like a vision.
Davis, a retired Ruston veterinarian, had seen the joy that playing ordinary sports brought to special-needs children. He has a Down syndrome grandson. Why, Davis wondered, couldn’t the same exuberance his grandson experienced in Texas be duplicated for special-needs youngsters in Ruston?

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After shooting only 26 percent from the field in the first half, the Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs scorched the nets and the Florida State Seminoles’ defense over the final 20 minutes in a 71-66 first-round National Invitational Tournament win at the Donald L. Tucker Center Tuesday night.
With the win, Tech (27-6) advances to play the winner of Southern Miss and Charleston Southern in a game that will be played tonight in Hattiesburg.
The victory was the program’s first in the NIT since defeating Vanderbilt in the second round in 2002 in Ruston.

Techsters home today (finally)

in

Excuse Head Coach Mark Montgomery and his Louisiana Tech University softball players if they may not recognize their own stadium today.
They haven’t played at the Lady Techsters’ Complex this season.
If you’re keeping score at home, that’s 24 games already on the road for Tech.
But a 6 p.m. meeting with Stephen F. Austin (8-18) will end the home “drought” before starting Western Athletic Conference action on the road — you guessed it — on the road Friday at New Mexico State.
