Make sure to avoid high credit card fees

in
Moore, Byron.jpg

Question: I was late making my payment to my credit card company last month and I think I was charged a fee for being just one week late. Can they do that?
Answer: They can, they did and they may do it again.
It’s bad enough that you have to pay high interest rates on credit card debt; but if you make the wrong moves, additional high credit card fees can really add to your financial pain.
It sounds like you have been charged a good, old-fashioned “late fee” by your credit card company. The fee was probably somewhere between $15 and $39.

Take advantage of higher IRA contribution limits

in
Fallin, Randy.jpg

For the first time since 2008, contribution limits have risen for one of the most popular retirement savings vehicles available: the IRA. This means you’ve got a greater opportunity to put more money away for your “golden years.”
Effective earlier this year, you can now put in up to $5,500 (up from $5,000 in 2012) to a traditional or Roth IRA when you make your 2013 contribution. And if you’re 50 or older, you can put in an additional $1,000 above the new contribution limit.

Eighth grade donation
The eighth grade social studies department recently received donations from Insurance Professionals of Northeast Louisiana, The Cleaners of Ruston, Hi-Tech Computers and The Visual Difference for the purchase of a new novel to read. Through their contributions, the eighth graders are currently reading “Twelve Years a Slave,” the story of a free man from New York who was kidnapped and brought to work as a slave in Louisiana for 12 years preceding the Civil War. We are very grateful for their help in purchasing this new book and all students are enjoying it.

Patton wins on, off field at Combine

in

Quinton Patton is sprinting up on the charts for the annual NFL draft.
He’s also adding more followers to his Twitter and Facebook accounts, even some of them maybe being members of the oftentimes tough-to-convince media.
After the former Louisiana Tech University star turned in an excellent performance at the recent NFL Scouting Combine and thus elevated his position among wide receiver candidates, several beat writers around the league literally gushed over his contagious personality.
Hey, “The General” can march with the best of them when it comes to “smack,” as much a part of many athletes’ DNA as their 40-yard dash times.
