Known as the Zumba pool party, Aqua Zumba gives new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout.
Splashing, stretching, twisting and even shouting, laughing, hooting and hollering are often heard during an Aqua Zumba class. Integrating the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines, Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe, challenging, water-based workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.

Don’t become a statistic this summer

For the most part, Lincoln Parish is a fairly safe place to live, although it is not immune to crime. And like most places, area crime will probably spike as the temperatures continue to rise.
In fact, according to the Uniform Crime Reports, compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a burglary occurs every 14.6 seconds in the United States. Most occur between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and the average burglar spends eight to 12 minutes in the home. The average loss per burglary is $1,725.

The Justice Department debacle

in
Bergeron, Nancy.jpg

It’s been 10 years since I was a full-time reporter, but I’m hacked off nonetheless. What was the Justice Department thinking when its investigators secretly seized phone records from Associated Press journalists?
Come on, now. In the slightly toned down words of House Speaker John Boehner, “they better have a good explanation.” So far, the only thing we’ve heard is that the feds were trying to figure out who leaked details about the CIA’s disruption of a Yemen-based terrorist plot to bomb an airliner.

Cedar Creek places 13 players on all-league squad

There’s two reasons why Head Coach Ben Haddox is happy about Cedar Creek High’s representation on the 2013 All-District 2-1A baseball squad.
First, the Cougars had 13 players chosen to the first, second and honorable mention units.
Secondly, and most importantly, 12 of those players will be returning to the Cedar Creek program for the 2014 campaign.
Infielder Brian Chicola, included on the second unit of the all-league team selected by head coaches, is the only Cougar who has concluded his prep playing career.

Tech tennis enjoys super season

in
050113 TECH'S STAR C.jpg

When first-year Head Coach Freddy Gomez was hired last November, he had some very lofty goals for the Louisiana Tech University tennis program.
He was determined to quickly bring the same kind of conference and national success to Tech as he had done at Virginia Tech as an assistant coach for two and a half years.
He believed that success was a developed habit that could be built immediately around strong principles and a winning spirit.
He was right on all fronts, but not without some early season struggles.

HARLINGEN, Texas — After failing to qualify for the Texas Class 5A state meet earlier this month, Harlingen High senior Cassie Divin thought her track and field career was over.
Divin ended her season in heartbreaking fashion, as she false-started in the 400-meter dash at the Region IV-5A meet in San Antonio.
After the meet, Divin admitted that she was devastated.
“After I scratched in the finals, I was disqualified and couldn’t continue with the race,” she said. “I was so heartbroken and I can honestly say it was the worst feeling ever.”
