Homicide suspect wanted

The Ruston Police Department responded to a shooting at the 1300 block of Benton Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. May 30.
According to reports, officers arriving on the scene found Deanthony Mardis, 31, of Ruston, had been the victim of a gunshot wound. Mardis was transported to the Northern Louisiana Medical Center where he later died.

Duo arrested on drug charges

Three Ruston residents were arrested following the execution of a search warrant at approximately 6 a.m. May 30 at a residence located at 1303 East Line Ave.
According to reports, a search warrant was issued for the residence, which Louis Johnson, 43, and Aileen Janie Johnson, 50, reportedly reside. Upon entering the home, deputies with the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office and agents with the Lincoln Parish Narcotics Enforcement Team (LPNET) detained both Louis and Aileen along with a third person at the home.

Passing storm knocks out power in area

Thursday evening’s round of storms scattered downed tree limbs across Ruston and knocked a portion of the city out of power for around an hour while also causing numerous outages across the region.
City of Ruston Public Utility Manager Daryl Caraway said a tree limb knocked down a power line near Super 1 Foods on North Trenton Street, leaving nearby residents without power for around an hour.

It’s no secret fruits and vegetables are chocked full of beneficial vitamins and nutrients and locally grown fruits and vegetables undergo minimal transportation, which helps them to remain fresh and nutrient rich. In the area, residents have the Ruston Farmers Market to not only buy fresh produce, but also help support local growers and farmers within the area as well.

Murder in Dallas

Two Ruston natives were shot and killed in the early morning hours of May 26 in a Dallas nightclub near the downtown area.
According to police reports, brothers Christopher Ferguson, 22, and Cecil Ferguson III, 39, both formerly of Ruston, were allegedly shot in a nightclub at the 500 block of South Riverfront Boulevard, near the intersection of Interstate 30 and Interstate 35E in downtown Dallas. The incident allegedly occurred, at approximately 2 a.m. after the pair engaged in an argument with Jerome Bernard Deamus, a convicted felon.
