The loss of a true friend: Celebrating the life of Marna Irby

My world is not as bright as it was only a few days ago — I have lost a true friend.
I only knew her for two decades, about 20 years, but I am forever wiser and richer for having known her as a friend and confidant.
Even though she was about 35 years older than me, the age difference was irrelevant.
I have said she was a “jump in the car, go get a Coke and talk about your boyfriend” kind of friend, not a grandmother figure, but that’s not to say she wasn’t a good listener.
What wise counsel she gave, without a hint of being judgmental.

Weir, Kolins wed at Burkhalter Chapel

Caroline Elise Weir, of Ruston, and Michael John Kolins, of Allen, Texas, were united in marriage at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Burkhalter Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church of Ruston.

The Rev. Gordon Robert McDaniel, of Falling Waters, West Virginia, officiated the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Daniel Weir, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Hugh Hearn, of Plain Dealing, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brown Weir, of Morgan City.

Gumbo taught me the importance of friends

The ministry staff from our church returned last week from a three-day planning retreat. One afternoon, our pastor left a three-hour time slot in our schedule for “team building” exercises.
On prior retreats, we might have played bocci ball or gone to see a movie; but this time, we went on an off-road adventure. Riding four wheelers and side-by-side ATV’s, we trailed off into the woods.
That was the plan, at least.

Frasier, Kennimer unite in marriage

Amy Danyelle Frasier, of Dubach, and Darren Kane Kennimer Jr., of Dubach, were united in holy matrimony at 5 p.m. April 30 at Ruston Weddings.

The double ring ceremony was officiated by Greg Tipton.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Frasier, and the granddaughter of Marie Tims, of Choudrant; the late Roy Tims; and the late Talmadge and Doris Frasier.

The groom is the son of Jan and Jon Pat Clemons, of Mansfield, and Darren and Lisa Kennimer, of Choudrant.
