Tech students represent in Miss Louisiana

Miss Louisiana will start with 32 contestants and finish with one victor wearing the coveted rhinestone crown.

Lincoln Parish residents will have plenty of ladies to cheer for in 2016’s Miss Louisiana competitions nightly starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at the Monroe Civic Center.

Five Louisiana Tech University contestants will compete at this year’s competition.

This time, it’s not government’s fault. For 18 full 24-hour days, everybody in Ruston, Lincoln Parish and all across the social media world had the opportunity to tell city officials exactly what kind of food they want and from where, precisely how they wish to spend their leisure time — legally, that is, and what type of clothing and other retail items they want to be able to buy in Ruston that are unavailable here now.

Reader writes about gun control

Terrorism. Murder. Assault weapons. Sexual orientation. Conservative belief system.
Self-hatred. Fear. Abuse. Mental illness. FBI background check.
These are all the current words being bandied about to describe the latest mass shooting in America.
They are also all correct.
This was a terror attack on a large demographic part of our nation, and it was cold-blooded murder.
A Muslim with a conservative background who was himself dealing with a sexual orientation crisis carried out the attack.
He obviously was also dealing with some type of mental illness.

Services for Tom McMillan, 76, of Ruston, will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Ruston with the Rev. Gerald Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Clay (Jackson Parrish) under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the funeral home prior to the service.

The ties that bind are strong.
And as he did a couple of months ago, Louisiana Tech athletics director Tommy McClelland is looking to his college alma mater — Northwestern State University —for a new baseball coach for the Diamond ’Dogs
After hiring Brooke Stoehr away from NSU in April to take over the Lady Techsters basketball program, McClelland has tabbed NSU’s Lane Burroughs as the new head coach of the Diamond ’Dogs.
McClelland is scheduled to make Burrough’s hire official at a noon press conference on Wednesday.
