The Caddo Community Action Agency Weatherization Assistance Program is accepting bids to provide labor only contractors and HVAC, licensed plumber, licensed electricians for the program year ending June 30, 2017 in Caddo, Lincoln and Rapides Parishes. Bid packages may be picked up July 22, 2016 thru July 29, 2016 at 4055 St.Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, LA or call (318) 861-4808, LA Relay 711. Deadline for bids to be turned in is 9:00 a.m.July 29, 2016. Bids will be opened in the CCAA Conference Room on July 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

GRAMBLING’S ORIGINAL FIRST LADY DIES AT 101 YEARS
Funeral services for Mrs. Eula Turner Woodard, widow of Grambling’s first mayor, will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church, Grambling, LA.

At her 100th birthday party in April 2015, she received recognitions from Grambling State University Research Club, various church and social ministries, State Representative Patrick Jefferson, District Attorney John Belton, and President Barack Obama.

Mrs. Polly Ann Hudson, age 89, of Grambling, Louisiana passed away at her residence on Monday, July 18, 2016.

She was born December 14, 1927 to the parents of Harrison and Nettie Hudson who preceded her in death. Also, preceding her one son; Robert Hudson, sister; LuBertha Newton; brother; Herbert Miller.

Drug bust leads to two arrests

A six-month investigation by an area law enforcement agency aided by the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of a Lincoln Parish couple on multiple drug charges.

Scott Kalanquin, 32, and his wife, Kristin Kalanquin, 26, of 583 Main Street in Grambling, are each charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule II methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and firearm violations.

Scott Kalanquin is also charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Ecstasy.

Local businessman passes away

Long-time Ruston businessman William Sanders “Bill” Baskin is being remembered today as a one-of-a-kind individual who was compassionate, engaged in his community and enjoyed visiting with friends.
“He was one of those people you meet that’s not like everybody else,” former Ruston Mayor Dan Hollingsworth said. “He was very patriotic and real strong in his Christian beliefs. He was devoted to the community.”
Baskin, founder of Ruston Glass & Mirror, died July 18 at age 93. Funeral services are at 4 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church.
