Memorial services for Peggy West Wilson, 91, of Ruston, LA will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 24, 2016 in the Temple Baptist Church Chapel under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Rev. Dale Oden will officiate.

Peggy West Wilson was born and raised in Southeast Texas.

She married Joe Wilson and traveled the world as a military wife, living in Europe and Central America.

She moved to Ruston in 1966 when her husband became a professor at Louisiana Tech University.

$1M grant awarded to Tech

STEM scholarships awarded to sophomores

U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.) announced Tuesday that the National Science Foundation will be awarding a $999,234 grant to Louisiana Tech University.

These funds will benefit sophomore students in the fields of mechanical, biomedical and civil engineering.

“Louisiana’s young folks are generating some exciting new ideas, particularly in the fields of science, technology, mathematics and engineering,” Vitter said.

A couple discusses different works of art hanging in the Ruston Civic Center Tuesday Night as they await the beginning of the 29th annual Peach Festival Art Exhibit Awards. More than 40 residents received awards for their art during the event Tuesday evening hosted by the North Central Louisiana Arts Council.

Local coffee shop opens its doors

Originally from Arizona, when Susan Skapura told her retired parents she wanted to move closer to them, she never thought she would be the managing owner of a coffee and frozen yogurt shop.
Skapura and her family — parents and siblings — recently opened Cultured and Caffeinated, a coffee shop that carries frozen yogurt.
The idea for the shop came from her father, Skapura said.
“My dad came up with this idea and it went from there,” she said. “We did the construction and design ourselves with some help.”

Weatherspoon named to WNBA Top 20

NEW YORK — Not that there was ever any doubt, but former Louisiana Tech women’s basketball standout Teresa Weathespoon has again been confirmed as one of the best ever to play in the WNBA.
In celebration of the WNBA’s landmark 20th season, the league on Tuesday unveiled the 20 greatest and most influential players in its history. The announcement of the WNBA Top 20@20 presented by Verizon was made on ESPN’s SportsCenter: Face-to-Face with Hannah Storm.

Tech students represent in Miss Louisiana

Miss Louisiana will start with 32 contestants and finish with one victor wearing the coveted rhinestone crown.

Lincoln Parish residents will have plenty of ladies to cheer for in 2016’s Miss Louisiana competitions nightly starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at the Monroe Civic Center.

Five Louisiana Tech University contestants will compete at this year’s competition.
