Dixie 11-year-olds start with wins

The Ruston Dixie Baseball Association 11-year-old All Stars opened World Series pool play in Searcy, Arkansas, Friday night with a 13-5 win over Hudson, Texas and a 5-3 victory over Cleveland, Mississippi after placing second in the shuttle event skils competition earlier in the day. Pictured is the team praying Saturday before falling to Pineville by the score of 8-4. The team led Athens, Texas, 4-3 as the Ruston Daily Leader went to press Saturday night.

Tech softball signee named All-American

in

MaxPrep’s All-American after her stellar senior season at North Forney High School in Forney, Texas.
Rizzato, who will be wearing a Lady Techster uniform this fall, earned the honor after driving in 73 runs in 39 games, leading North Forney to the Class 5A Region II semifinals. Rizzato batted .615 and hit 16 homers.
The District 12-5A MVP averaged nearly two hits per game, finishing with 72, and nearly half of her hits went for extra bases.
In eight playoff games, Rizzato hit .643 with four home runs, nine runs and 17 RBIs.

Whitetails Unlimited returning in August

It was one year ago that an event was held in north Louisiana that had folks excited and turned lots of heads. The inaugural banquet of an organization was held that outdoors people still talk about. It was the initial gathering of a new organization, Whitetails Unlimited, Lincoln Parish chapter.
The reason for all the chatter was the number of people willing to purchase tickets and turn out on a hot August night and the amount of money raised. Upwards of 500 were in attendance of this new event.

Horn, Barr marry in Texas

Abigail Lillie Horn, of Richardson, Texas, and William Reeves Barr, of Ruston, married at 6:30 p.m. July 17 in a double-ring ceremony at The Cotton Mill in McKinney, Texas.

The wedding was officiated by Kurt Pressler, Marriage Ministry Director at Fellowship Bible Church Dallas.

The bride is the daughter of Kathleen and Joe Mark Horn, of Richardson, Texas, and the granddaughter of Ann Horn and the late Dr. Joe Horn, of Plainview, Texas, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ignatius G. Ruiz, of New Orleans.

A Gazebo, a misstep and an important truth

It began as a date night with my wife, and ended with a substantial purchase at Lowe’s Home Improvement. Please allow me to explain. Over the past few months, my wife and I have discussed expanding our patio space by adding to our covered porch.
What we found at Lowe’s, however, gave us some much needed shade without the complication of a construction project. We found a beautiful gazebo, perfectly sized for our patio area, and determined it would provide the expanded are we desired at a minimal cost. So we placed our order and waited for delivery.

Tech’s “Bulldogs Without Borders” aides Haiti

A team from Louisiana Tech University’s “Bulldogs Without Borders” student-led service organization recently traveled to Sous-a-Philippe, Haiti, where they began restoration on a water desalination system that was destroyed by a cattle stampede more than 40 years ago.
