Dedication set for Robertson court

Louisiana Tech University fans are invited to attend the dedication ceremony on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the recently completed Scotty Robertson Court located in Memorial Gymnasium. The floor was designed to honor the late Tech basketball coaching legend Robert “Scotty” Robertson, who was an eight-time hall of famer and which will be used by the Bulldog and Lady Techster basketball teams as well as by the health and physical education department. Along with the new floor, new backboards, rims and padding have been installed as well as repair to the bleachers.

Wallace commits to GSU

GRAMBLING — A big step has been taken for solving the placekicking woes of Grambling State University’s football team.
Highly-regarded placekicker/punter Jonathan Wallace of Rayville High School has verbally committed to the Tigers.
The Class 3A Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Stater in 2011 is one of the state’s top kickers this season with four-of-six field goals and 24-of-28 extra point conversions.
He is also averaging 43 yards per punt.
Wallace is a high-achieving student with Honor Roll status and a 3.0-plus grade point average.

COLLEGE
• LOUISIANA TECH: Wide receiver QUINTON PATTON caught 21 passes for 233 yards and four touchdowns • GRAMBLING STATE: Running back CEDRIC SKINNER had touchdown runs of three and 18 yards and totaled 82 rushing yards on 18 carries.

Robert (Bob) Howard Newell

A private committal will be held for Mr. Robert (Bob) Howard Newell, age 81, of Ruston, on Saturday at Wimberly Cemetery in Ringgold, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Mr. Newell was born June 20, 1931 and passed away October 18, 2012 following a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Eura and John Howard; and sister, Jean Newell.

Helen Pesnell Wooten McMeen

Helen Pesnell Wooten McMeen was born in Lincoln Parish, LA on August 9, 1931; and passed away Thursday October 18, 2012 at Stoney Brook Memory Care Assisted Living, West Monroe, LA. She was educated in public schools in Choudrant and Chatham, LA prior to attending Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA. She received her BA degree, majoring in Home Economics and Science, in three years graduating in August, 1953.
