Tech has new coach, hope for stability

Skip Holtz Jr., got a new Louisiana Tech University logo cap on Friday afternoon when he was introduced as the Bulldogs’ new head football coach.
It fit perfectly.
Now, will the son of the legendary Lou Holtz fit perfectly into the school’s plans for climbing even higher among the NCAA’s Football Bowl Subdivision programs and having a bright future in Conference USA when it begins membership in 2013?

Frazier lifts Tech past ORU

Whitney Frazier turned into another “Player of the Game” performance at the Thomas Assembly Center on Friday night.
The Louisiana Tech University sophomore forward, who sank two game-winning free throws in the final minute of an early week 52-50 finale against McNeese State University, swished in a field goal and then added a free throw with 11.2 seconds remaining to provide a 61-59 victory over Oral Roberts University.

If anyone can truly appreciate the meaning of being named as the 2012 recipient of the Football Writers Association of America/Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, it’s Brian Kelly.
When the Friends of the Eddie G. Robinson Museum had its grand opening ceremonies on Feb. 13, 2010, it was Kelly who served as one of the keynote speakers (the other was Head Coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers).

Tech soccer enjoyed magical season

Seven key four-year seniors graduated. Ten others were lost due to injuries or other circumstances.
Enter 17 new players — freshman and one sophomore transfer — to take their place on a Louisiana Tech soccer squad that clawed its way to an 8-8-4 overall record and a last place finish in the Western Athletic Conference for 2011.

‘Hunters for Hungry’ organized by LDWF

BATON ROUGE — If you are an outdoorsman or women experiencing success during this hunting season, you have an opportunity to pass on some of that bounty to hungry families around the state.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is encouraging hunters to donate harvested game, specifically deer and hogs, to Hunters for the Hungry (HFH).

The guy drove down the road around the corner from my house; a big gobbler was crossing in front of an occupied home. Easing to a stop, he reached for his shotgun and shot the gobbler. The property owner, who was standing on his porch watching the turkeys make their daily trek across the road to roost, couldn’t believe what he’d just witnessed. As soon as the shooter saw the property owner headed his way, he hurriedly sped away, leaving the gobbler dying in the ditch.
