Cameron, Dixon earn awards in WAC

Louisiana Tech University isn’t going to a bowl game, but plenty of players on the outstanding team are earning postseason recognition.
Fourteen Bulldogs, including nine on the first unit, were announced as members of the 2012 All-Western Athletic Conference squad voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Quarterback Colby Cameron and running back Kenneth Dixon earned two of the four individual awards by being chosen as the Outstanding Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year, respectively.

Bulldogs slated for hoops success

And fans of the men’s basketball team at Louisiana Tech University thought they had seen plenty of success during the 2011-12 season.
This year is looming even better.
Off to one of the best starts in the program’s history, the Bulldogs will take a 7-1 record and seven-game winning streak into tonight’s “Pine Cone” rivalry with Northwestern State University at Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches.

'The cloud' heralds in media future

Last Christmas, I found a Kindle under my Christmas tree.
If you’re unfamiliar with what a Kindle is, it is a small, electronic device used for reading books –— an e-reader (short for electronic reader).
For a fanatic reader like myself, it was one of the best Christmas gifts money could buy. And, yet, nearly a year later I’ve purchased very few books for it.
Sure, I’ve downloaded numerous free books, and used the device to connect to OverDrive, a service offered by the Lincoln Parish Library that allows patrons to check out electronic books.

Barbara Prothro Thornhill

Services to celebrate the life of Barbara Prothro Thornhill will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Billy Pierce officiating.

Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thornhill was born on November 2, 1933 in Campti, Louisiana to the late William and Annie Prothro. She was the wife of Cecil R. Thornhill for 55 years until his passing in 2010.

THE VILLAGE OF SIMSBORO MONTHLY TOWN HALL MEETING MINUTES MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2012
The Village of Simsboro met in regular session Monday, November 5, 2012 at 6:00 P. M. Council members present were Alderman Doug Durrett and Alderman Tiffany Cole, Alderman Pam Durrett was absent. Mayor Hendricks called the meeting to order. Pastor Phillips voiced the prayer. Mayor Hendricks led in the Pledge of Allegiance.
AGENDA APPROVED: A motion was made by Alderman Tiffany Cole to approve the agenda as printed, seconded by Alderman Doug Durrett. Motion passed.

Guice interviews Tuesday

Les Guice is scheduled to be interviewed by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Baton Rouge for the position of Louisiana Tech University president.
After selecting Guice and another semi-finalist out of nine applicants, a search committee conducted interviews, and Guice, who currently serves as Tech’s executive vice president and vice president for research and development, was selected as the sole finalist for the position.
ULS Board of Supervisors Chair Wayne Parker said the board might make a decision on Tuesday.
