Invest time in students

If students don’t learn to read effectively they will have trouble throughout their school career, which will then spill over into the rest of their lives.
Beginning later this month, more than 80 volunteers will be headed to local schools to help ensure Lincoln Parish second graders have a fighting chance at achieving their full potential. Approximately 40 students, who have been specially chosen by their principals, will spend 30 minutes per week with these volunteers reading.

in
Brooks, Brenda.jpg

SIMSBORO — The U.S. Postal Service first announced in late December that effective Jan. 26, services would be suspended at the Simsboro Post Office, because they could not come to an acceptable lease negotiation with the building owner.
However, after a community meeting with U.S. Postal Service representatives last week where several residents expressed their concerns, there has been a major change.
On Monday at the monthly Simsboro Town Hall meeting, Mayor Willie Hendricks announced that the Simsboro Post Office would not be closing after all.

“It is my opinion that for the last three years, any (Jury issue) that was controversial was swept under the carpet, especially on financial matters,” Russell said. “‘It’s time to grab the bull by the horns.”
Nominated by Juror Bobby Bennett, Russell was elected by the Jury as their new leader by a vote of 7-5 at the monthly meeting on Tuesday evening.
