Funeral services for Robert E. “Bob” Holladay, III age, 91, of Ruston, LA will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Hilbun officiating the service. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until service time at the church. Interment will follow in Pines Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Simsboro Post Office to remain open

U.S. Postal Service negotiates terms with building owner

SIMSBORO — The U.S. Postal Service first announced in late December that effective Jan. 26, services would be suspended at the Simsboro Post Office, because they could not come to an acceptable lease negotiation with the building owner.
However, after a community meeting with U.S. Postal Service representatives last week where several residents expressed their concerns, there has been a major change.
On Monday at the monthly Simsboro Town Hall meeting, Mayor Willie Hendricks announced that the Simsboro Post Office would not be closing after all.

Jury elects new leadership

As the new Lincoln Parish Police Jury president, Skip Russell said he plans to put together an action plan to attack several issues in the parish.
“It is my opinion that for the last three years, any (Jury issue) that was controversial was swept under the carpet, especially on financial matters,” Russell said. “‘It’s time to grab the bull by the horns.”
Nominated by Juror Bobby Bennett, Russell was elected by the Jury as their new leader by a vote of 7-5 at the monthly meeting on Tuesday evening.

Locals to help improve literacy in Lincoln Parish

Lincoln Parish students headed back to school this week, and local volunteers also headed to class to learn how they can help some local children become better readers.
In a partnership between United Way and the Lincoln Parish ACHIEVE project, approximately 80 volunteers gathered in three separate training sessions in the meeting room at the Lincoln Parish Library on Tuesday and early this morning to learn a little more about reading and how important it is for children to master the skill.

Tony Petersen, that is.
The 46-year-old native of Lodi, Calif., who was the offensive coordinator for Marshall University’s No. 1 nationally ranked passing team this past season will have the same duties for the Bulldogs starting this fall.

That’s where Louisiana Tech University’s Lady Techsters will seek rare, all-time program win No. 500 with a 7 p.m. tipoff against Western Athletic Conference foe Texas State University.
But it’s not just the game itself that is putting an emphasis on “500.”
