Be wary of increasing heat

While temperatures have been relatively mild in recent weeks, it looks like summer is about to crank things up with temperatures expected to reach the mid 90s or higher the rest of this week.
With Juneteenth festivities set for Grambling this week and the Louisiana Peach Festival set to start on June 21, many people will be out in the heat, so precautions should be takent to avoid heat illness.

Some not so sunny effects

Men stop reading — you will probably soon become bored. Or at least pretend to stop reading. Although I plan to fill this column with very useful information and tidbits that everyone can appreciate, I have a feeling it’s going to dive off into the female dominate world of hair, as that was my inspiration at the start.
I adore summer, maybe not the extreme heat, but I’m always game for the pool, lake, river or beach. I love the water and I love the sun. But while the water is mostly OK to indulge in, it is the sun that can cause extreme harm.

Jones, Simmons wed at Nottoway Plantation

Catherine Lee Jones and Jacob Tyler Simmons, both of Nashville, Tenn., were united in marriage in a 7:30 p.m. ceremony June 8 at Nottoway Planation in White Castle. The uncle of the bride, the Reverend Ronald Cathey, performed the ceremony.

Caty is the daughter or Mr. and Mrs. Michael Aubrey Jones, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Jones, of Ruston, and Mrs. Malcolm Cathey and the late Mr. Malcolm Cathey, of Simsboro.

Olimbia Karagiorgi

Olimbia Karagiorgi of Athens, Greece, died Saturday June 8, 2013 in Athens. She was the mother of Ruston resident Noula Rodakis and her husband, Steve, and grandmother of Ruston resident Olitsa Robbins, and her husband, Lee and their children, Trey and Adrianna. She is also survived by grandson John Rodakis and his wife, Christi, of Dallas, Texas, and their children, Nicholas and Evie. In Greece, are daughter Adoula Stavropoulou of Athens and her husband Dimitri, daughter-in-law Dina Karayiorgi, and also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Helen Flowers, age 84, of Ruston will be held at 11:00 AM Sunday, June 9, 2013 in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Interment will follow at Colvin Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mrs. Flowers was born December 18, 1928 and passed away June 6, 2013.
