Leonard Delane Leachman

Funeral services for Leonard Delane Leachman, age 79, of Ruston will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 5, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Chris Craig. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Downsville under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Mr. Leachman was born February 19, 1934 and passed away April 3, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Eula Leachman; brothers: Fred, Billy and George Leachman and wife Peggy Leachman.

Introduce Ordinance to Amend 2012 Budget
Introduce Ordinance o Adopt a Criminal Code for the City of Grambling
Introduce Ordinance o Adopt a Vehicular & Traffic Code for the City of Grambling
Any other pertinent matter brought before the council.

RHS principal position opens, bids sought for SHS track

The search for a new Ruston High School principal begins, as Lincoln Parish School Board members voted to begin advertising for the position today during their Tuesday night regular meeting.
Mike Milstead, the current RHS principal, will move up to the central office on July 1 to serve as the chief academic officer, requiring that his school leadership position be filled in time for the beginning of the 2013-14 school year.

Working to prevent drunk driving

On one of the coldest days of the year, the North Central Alliance Partners in Prevention recently set up the Lives Lost to Alcohol silhouettes in remembrance of all those who have died due to alcohol related crashes in Lincoln Parish. The display began in 2006 in response to the increasing number of deaths due to alcohol related crashes. These silhouettes represent the real people who have died, including high school students, college students, fraternity brothers, sorority sisters, friends, children and parents. The annual dedication ceremony is set for 7 p.m.

Arrest made in vehicle burglaries

A Grambling man was arrested in connection with a couple of car burglaries in the area of the Methodist Children’s Home and Northern Louisiana Medical Center on Tuesday morning.
According to the arrest affidavit, officers received reports during the early morning hours on Tuesday of a vehicle burglary on the MCH campus. A witness reportedly advised that she had heard a window break near a car on the property. She approached the area and reportedly saw a man. She said she told the man she could see him and he fled the scene running east.

Man arrested while on bond

A Ruston man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly committing a simple burglary while he was out on bond for a separate simple burglary charge.
Maj. Stephen Williams, spokesman with the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, said Kenneth Wayne Strozier, 38, of 4488 Louisiana Highway 818, was arrested on March 18 and charged with simple burglary. Strozier reportedly bonded out of jail on March 28, and shortly thereafter, investigators suspected him in a second burglary.

G-Men set for spring drills

Tigers start preparing for 2013 slate on Thursday

GRAMBLING — Thank goodness, Grambling State University’s football team can start all over on Thursday.
After what they endured last year, the Tigers deserve a new beginning.
In 2012, the G-Men suffered through the most dismal of seasons in the long and legendary history of the program.
Eleven games, only one win and last place in the Western Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
It couldn’t have gotten much worse for the Tigers, unless they had lost all 11 of those games.

Techsters edge Nicholls State

Janna Frandrup’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the difference, as Louisiana Tech University defeated Nicholls State University 6-5 Tuesday night in non-conference softball action at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Tech (18-15) built an early five-run lead and then held on for its fifth straight victory, its longest winning streak of the season.
