Move over, The Mailman and other members of that legendary Louisiana Tech University basketball team of the mid-1980s.
You’ve got some company.
For the first time since Karl Malone and the 1984-85 Bulldogs’ squad marched deep into postseason competition, the school has a Top 25 ranked men’s team.
On Monday afternoon, the Associated Press released its weekly national poll voted on by members of the media and Tech was ranked No. 25 with 54 points and up from its No. 28 position of a week ago.

GSU Falls

ITTA BENA, Miss. — Grambling State University lost both games of a Southwestern Athletic Conference basketball doubleheader Monday night to Mississippi Valley State.
The Lady Tigers (6-22, 4-1) were an 84-64 victim of the Delta Devilettes, while the Tigers (0-25, 0-16) suffered a 90-68 loss.
Guard Joanna Miller had a game-high 32 points for Grambling State’s women, who also got nine rebounds from guard Cierra Ceazer.
Brandon Dorsett had 13 points, Demetrius Wheeler 10 points, Steven Dandridge 11 points and Bryant Purvis 12 points and eight rebounds to pace the Grambling State men.

Five schools eye semifinal slots tonight

Ruston High has a giant task in the Class 5A Louisiana High School Athletic Association boys’ basketball playoffs tonight.
The Bearcats’ challenge?
Try and get past Scotlandville, the defending state champion who ranked No. 1 in this year’s final Louisiana Sports Writers Association poll and who will bring a 31-2 record and 23-game winning streak into the city for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal round showdown at the RHS gymnasium.
Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students with an ID.

Key leads Dubach

DUBACH — Sueterrica Key scored 40 points to lead Dubach High’s girls to consecutive win No. 19 with a 79-43 romp past Atlanta (19-9) in the quarterfinal round of the Class C Louisiana High School Athletic Association playoffs Monday night.
The Lady Hornets, now 29-1 on the season, will meet Plainview in the semifinal round of postseason play that beginsThursday night and continues through Saturday at various sites.
Dubach, which is seeded No. 2, will meet a No. 3-seeded Plainview squad that earned its semifinal berth with a 73-51 win over Kilbourne.

RHS football team honored at banquet

Damian Washington and John David Moore earned prestigious awards that are named in honor of two of the school’s former head coaches at the 2013 Ruston High School football banquet.
Washington, a senior defensive lineman, received the Jimmy “Chick” Childress award.
Moore, a senior right end, was recognized as the recipient of the L.J. “Hoss” Garrett Award.
Both awards were presented by Bobby Williams, a former All-State defensive lineman for the Bearcats who went on to play collegiately at LSU.

Fans pay tribute to Robinson

Former Grambling State University and National Football League defensive back Delles Howell talks about the impact the late Eddie Robinson had on his life and playing career during a “Family Day” and open house held last weekend at the museum named in honor of the former Tigers’ legendary head coach. The event also celebrated what would have been birthday No. 94 for Robinson this month.

Moore, Carroll to earn scholar athlete awards

Lincoln Parish will have two representatives receiving awards when the S.M. McNaughton Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame has its annual scholar athlete banquet Thursday at the East Ridge Country Club in Shreveport. A “Meet and Greet” session is set from 6-6:45 p.m. before the banquet begins at 6:45 p.m.
Presentation of awards will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Colin Davidson Seaman

Graveside services for Colin Davidson Seaman, 67 of Ruston will be 10:30AM Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston. Rector Easterling of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer will officiate. Mr. Seaman was born March 20, 1945 in Waterproof, LA and died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Northern Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.C. Seaman, Sr. and Edith Post Seaman; Brother, J.C. “Shootsie” Seaman.

Ricky Joe Bergeron, Jr.

Funeral services for Ricky Joe Bergeron, Jr., age 14 of Downsville will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday at Fellowship Baptist Church near Dubach with Bro. Connie Smith officiating. Interment will be in Fellowship Cemetery, Dubach. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville.

Ricky Joe, a student, passed away Friday, February 22, 2013. He was in the Honors Program at Farmerville High School and enjoyed bull riding, football, baseball, Bass fishing and listening to music.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, S.D. Wilson, Jr.
