Funeral services for Patricia Marie Beard Carter, age 82, of Ruston will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Bro. Regan Colvin. Interment will follow at Cook Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Mrs. Carter was born July 22, 1930 and passed away April 10, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Carter.

Being aware of Autism

A child waving his hands wanders around a roomful of kids, seemingly off in his own little world as he makes no eye contact and shows no interest in interacting with the other children.
The child could be a loner by nature, or he could be one of 1.5 million Americans living with autism.
April marks Autism Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and celebrate the progress of people with this condition.

Parish park a hidden jewel

Hidden away in the piney woods just off of Louisiana Highway 33 lies one of Lincoln Parish’s hidden jewels.
Many people realize that fact, but there are still many others who have never really visited this vision of splendor. Those are the people who should consider exploring what Lincoln Parish Park has to offer.
The 260-acre site located a few miles north of Ruston off of Louisiana Highway 33 offers 12 tent sites, 33 RV sites, shower facilities, eight pavilions — one with climate control — for rent and a lakeside beach area.

The impact of blind role models

This past weekend, I again flew to Austin, Texas, to teach cane travel to young blind Texans in the second Project CHANGE (Connections Helping Another Navigate and Guarantee Employment) event. Project CHANGE is a new National Federation of the Blind (NFB) of Texas vocational readiness program made possible by a generous grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.
