Wray George Chicola

Wray George Chicola, age 53, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013.  He was a native and resident of Alexandria.  He is the son of Nick and Olla Rae Chicola. He was married to Theresa Drerup of twenty years and had three beautiful daughters; Carrie Wray, Celine Marie, and Barbara Colleen.  He was also the proud grandfather of Lexie Jules Waters.  Wray was incredibly devoted to his family.

Mrs. Jean Phillips

Memorial services for Mrs. Jean Phillips, 77, of Choudrant were held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Choudrant, with Brad Jones officiating. “Mamaw Jean,” as she was lovingly known by many, was born on July 21, 1935 in Little Rock, Arkansas and passed from this life on Thursday, May 23. She is preceded in death by three sisters, one brother, and one grandson, Anthony Wayne Willis. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, H. E. Phillips, Jr. of Choudrant.

It can also be a good feeling, as strong emotions flood over you because of something you’ve seen happen or were a part of.

Parish honors service members

On Monday, as a nation, we will take time to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while in service of our country. While many programs and tributes will remember those lost, it is fairly common to incorporate all who have served or who are in current service of the United States armed forces. In Lincoln Parish, gratitude is not lacking as several organizations have planned events to not only pay tribute, but also thank those veterans and service members within our community.

Center disapproves of Medicaid bill

HB 533, which will be considered by the Legislature on Monday, protects rates paid to Medicaid providers of nursing and group home care. It calls for a Constitutional amendment that would set rates at 2013 levels and would require that they be increased every year by the rate of inflation.
This is bad policy and is unfair to more than 45,000 Louisianans who have waited years for services in their homes rather than in the institutions protected by this Bill.

AARP La. opposes debt bill

Consumers must be able to defend themselves when a creditor claims they owe a debt.
But right now legislators are considering a bill that would make consumers powerless to defend against debt collection — even when they have already paid the debt or never owed any money in the first place.
Senate Bill 174 by Senator Danny Martiny would prevent consumers from asserting valid defenses if they don’t have a written agreement with the creditor.
