U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.) hosted a town hall meeting at Choudrant’s Village Hall on Wednesday afternoon. Vitter, who was scheduled to answer question from 2:30-3:30 p.m. allowed commentary for more than one and half-hours from locals who attended the meeting. The topic discussed included federal spending, immigration and the Second Amendment. See the full story in Sunday’s edition of the Daily Leader.

Amber alert on Fla. children

State police seek information, suspect parents could travel through Louisiana

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has issued an AMBER Alert for two young children after their noncustodial, biological parents reportedly abducted them from their custodial grandmother in Tampa, Fla., at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Louisiana State Police have issued a Level II — Endangered/Missing Advisory as the biological parents and children may be traveling to or through Louisiana.

Stephenson receives national NMSI honor

Julie Stephenson may have been surprised when she heard about her latest award, but Lincoln Parish has likely noticed that excellence has become something of a habit with the local educator.
Stephenson, a former Lincoln Parish and Louisiana State High School Teacher of the Year, has been named as the National Math and Science Initiative Trainer of the Year.

GSU student to appear on ‘Let’s Make a Deal’

When “Lets Make A Deal” airs on Friday on CBS, psychology graduate students Tyesha White, of Ruston, and Shalonda Jackson, of Jonesboro, plan to have a few friends and family over.
Others in Lincoln Parish might want to tune in as well, because back in November, when the announcer said, “Come on down,” Tyesha White did.
“I was clapping and in astonishment all the way down,” White said.
White isn’t yet able to talk about the things she won, but the prizes exceeded material items.
