in
Stockton, Gary.jpg

Someone asked me the question the other day, “Why does the 4-H program still teach kids to raise animals when so few people start careers in livestock these days?” Reasonable enough question, but the 4-H livestock projects aren’t only about teaching young people to raise animals. Learning how to feed, fit and show an animal is a secondary purpose.

Degrie, Elizabeth (New).jpg

I have never been an Angelina Jolie fan. I never quite got over what many people — probably Ms. Aniston included — viewed as her theft of one Mr. Brad Pitt, teen heartthrob to the generation just proceeding my own, from girl-next-door beauty Jennifer Aniston.

050313 BURKHALTER C.jpg

Ruston High had the No. 1 team in District 2-5A baseball this spring.
They also had the No. 1 pitcher.
David Michael Burkhalter, a hard-throwing junior righthander, has been selected as the Pitcher of the Year in the league by the head coaches.
The proof for winning that award?
A sterling 11-1 overall mark that included a microscopic 0.93 earned run average and 117 strikeouts in 76.1 innings.
Burkhalter allowed only 10 earned runs and 14 bases on balls.
Added evidence: a 6-0, complete game, no-hit victory against Rayville.
