Bearcats play at home tonight

in

Ruston High School’s baseball team will be back in action tonight when Natchitoches Central comes to the Bearcats’ diamond for a 5 p.m. District 2-5A game.
Head Coach Toby White will guide RHS into its seventh league contest with the rescheduled contest that was originally set to be held on Thursday, but was wiped out by rain showers.
Ruston is 21-5 overall and 5-1 in the district, where it recently won two-of-three games from rival West Monroe High. The Bearcats are No. 8 in the Class 5A Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The forecast thunderstorms didn’t come. The winds didn’t swirl. The greens were slow.
Three strikes.
Augusta National, known to be unaccommodating, took it easy Thursday on Day One of the 2013 Masters.
The most famous course in America gave up 45 rounds of par or better; only three players shot 80 or more.

Garr selected to college Hall for baseball

GRAMBLING — The “Roadrunner” has sprinted right into the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
Ralph Garr, a native of Ruston who starred at now defunct Lincoln High School before going on to All-American stardom at Grambling State University and then an All-Star career in the big leagues, was announced on Thursday as a member of the prestigious Hall of Fame induction Class of 2013.
Garr and six fellow inductees will be honored during ceremonies to be held in conjunction with the College Baseball Night of Champions celebration in Lubbock, Texas, June 28-29.

Techsters hope win builds momentum for WAC series

Can a 5-0 road victory against Northwestern State University on Wednesday be the catalyst for Louisiana Tech University’s move out of third place in the Western Athletic Conference standings?
The Lady Techsters (20-17, 5-4) will try and advance closer to the top of the league race this weekend with a three-game home series against current runner-up San Jose State University (29-13, 7-2).
Tech and SJSU will meet in a single game tonight at 6 p.m., then in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.

he Village of Simsboro met in regular session Monday, April 1, 2013 at 6:08 P.M. Council members present were, Alderman Tiffany Cole , Alderman Doug Durrett and Alderman Pam Durrett . Mayor Willie Hendricks called the meeting to order. Alderman Pam Durrett voiced the invocation and Mayor Hendricks led the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Hendricks presented the agenda. A motion was made by Alderman Tiffany Cole to adopt agenda as presented, seconded by Alderman Pam Durrett. Motion passed.
