Tech honors outstanding faculty members

Four Louisiana Tech University faculty members were honored for excellence in teaching, research and advising during Saturday’s spring commencement ceremony at the Thomas Assembly Center.
The 2013 Louisiana Tech University Foundation’s Professorship Award, F. Jay Taylor Undergraduate Teaching Award and Outstanding Undergraduate Faculty Advisor Award were presented before the 879 spring graduates and nearly 7,000 guests in attendance.

Make sure kids stay safe during summer months

The day so many students have been counting down to is just around the corner.
Tuesday is the official last day for Lincoln Parish public schools. After suffering through that final day, thousands of local kids will be free for those blessed and much anticipated summer months.
While many parents are planning their best to pack in educational and entertaining activities to keep their students occupied this summer, undoubtedly there will be time when kids are left to their own devices.

Freedom of speech crucial

It is a lengthy sentence, but nonetheless, just one sentence. I sometimes question if that brief thought caused so much decisiveness amongst our founding fathers as it does today amongst the citizens of the United States.

With fundraising wrapping up, DART has hope

In the aftermath of a week of feverish activity for the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team — Darts for DART on May 2 at the Dawg House Sports Grill, our 12th Annual Radiothon at Super 1 Foods on May 9 and our Benefit Concert and Auction at the Dixie Center on May 11 — we are breathing deeply and giving thanks.
In the intense activity of last week, DART experienced the support of a small, close-knit community in so many different ways, each of them heartwarming to us, each of them encouraging.

GRAMBLING — As thrilled as Eric Harper is about getting a chance to play in the National Football League, he’s even more ecstatic about the impact it will make on Grambling State University.
When the defensive end from Marrero recently inked a free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders, it marked only the third player out of the Tigers’ program to be listed on a current NFL roster.
The others: highly-regarded defensive lineman Jason Hatcher of the Dallas Cowboys and tight end Larry Donnell of the New York Giants.

Tech features variety of grid ticket options

Fans of Louisiana Tech University’s football program has a variety of options to purchase tickets for the 2013 season.
Season reserved bench seats on the west side of Joe Aillet Stadium will cost $160 and east side general admission is set for $90.
Faculty and staff will be able to purchase reserved bench seats for $130 and young alumni will have a discounted season ticket rate of $80 with a limit of two purchases.
The Kid’s Club is for any youngster in eighth grade or younger.
