At times on the Louisiana Tech University practice field last Saturday morning, Willie Roaf could stand for only so long.
Eventually, there would come the time when he would say, “Excuse me,” and then lean up against one of the tall light poles located nearby or on a huge tire affixed to a crane.
Welcome to the life of a former NFL player.
Oh, those glory days in the league were made for scrapbooks and fond memories.
So was the adulation of fans, media and others who appreciated an all-out effort on each and every play.

RHS maintains lead in District 2-5A

in

Garrett Hipp went yard and eight of his teammates supplied ample assistance on offense to shove Ruston High past West Monroe 12-11 in the final game of their District 2-5A series on Saturday night.
The game was a fitting finish to the three games played over a three-day period, starting with RHS winning 10-2 on Thursday and WMHS prevailing by the same on Friday.
Then it was Hipp and Company who went bat-to-bat with the Rebels at the RHS diamond on Saturday and in nine innings, no less.

Grambling State University was a rude host for Prairie View A&M last weekend.
And because of it, the Western Division baseball standings for the Southwestern Athletic Conference have undergone a new look.
With an 8-2 win at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park on Sunday afternoon, the Tigers (13-17, 7-7) have put themselves back in contention and left the Panthers (15-13, 6-6) heading home out of first place.
Grambling started its three-game sweep of the Panthers by capturing a doubleheader on Saturday with victories of 10-0 and 9-1.

Celebrate La.’s Jazz heritage

Although never proven as fact, jazz has long been associated with New Orleans, and even on a broader spectrum, Louisiana. However, with the Smithsonian having the world’s most comprehensive set of jazz programs it has designated April as being Jazz Appreciation Month, or JAM.

When asked about what is the most enjoyable aspect of my job, the answer is always easy — the World War II veterans. I enjoy visiting with them for various reasons, particularly to gain wisdom from their life experience. But there are so many others I also enjoy meeting. In fact, to be less specific, I believe that is the most enjoyable part of my job is meeting people of all walks of life, in different professions, of different generations, backgrounds, races, etc.
