in
Degrie, Elizabeth 8-13 NEW.jpg

Here in Lincoln Parish, there is a huge focus on water. On top of water activities being a beloved pastime of those of living in the warmer climate of the Deep South, most everyone is aware of the importance of preserving water locally.
Frequent readers are well aware that the Sparta aquifer, which serves as the primary source of drinking water for us and 14 other north Louisiana parishes, has been used up at a faster rate than it can naturally replenish for decades.

Special needs baseball league to start second year

Area youth have enjoyed participating in sports of all kinds for as long as most can remember.
But now, with the help of a few local residents, special needs children have the same opportunity.
Buddy Ball is a baseball team for special needs children. The name comes from the idea that each child has a buddy that will assist them during a baseball game.
Mechelle Brown, co-founder, said any child from age 4 to 16 with any type of disability is invited to join the teams.
This will be the second season of the games.

Area residents are flooded with various acronyms for government agencies, and some may even wonder what tasks those agencies perform.
The Geographic Information Systems office of Lincoln Parish will hold two open houses Tuesday for area residents to gain a little more knowledge as to what they do. The first will be held at 9:30 a.m., with the second being that evening at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln Parish Library.
