When Amanda Serio and her husband, John, first read about LifeHouse Ministries, they laughed. Spiritual movement? Reflective gardening?
“We thought it sounded too New Age,” Serio said.
But when a trusted friend suggested to Serio that she might find the small-group experience she was looking for at LifeHouse, she decided to try one of the center’s Bible study groups. Serio’s been hooked on LifeHouse ever since.
“I found it to be very genuine,” she said. “It just fit. It’s a safe place where you can be yourself as you are.”

LEAP scores released

in
Eighth grade marks highest in Northeast La.

Lincoln Parish received good news and bad news last week when fourth and eighth grade LEAP scores were announced.
Donna Doss, school improvement and accountability coordinator, said that the numbers are very similar to last year.
“Although the percentages have changed, the numbers are very close to last year,” Doss said. “For the Northeast Louisiana area, we are very pleased with both of our scores equaling or being higher than the state average. Many of the districts saw a decrease in both grade’s attainment of promotional status.”

Local teens ready for the state pageant experience

After a year of talent rehearsals, dress fittings, mock interviews and physical fitness preparations, two Lincoln Parish teens are currently competing in the Miss Louisiana’s Outstanding Teen pageant in Monroe through Saturday.

Teens, tweens to kick off summer

The Teen Summer Reading Program offers a way to keep teen minds sharp over summer downtime. This summer’s theme is “Beneath the Surface.”
Things will kick off with a “Survive the Summer” event at 6:30 p.m. today. This will be a night based on the popular TV show “Survivor,” where participants will be doing relays and challenges to see who comes out the ultimate survivor.
Teens can sign up and pick up “survival” packs needed to complete the program at this event or any time at the library.

Parish teachers gather for professional development

Secondary science teachers from the Lincoln Parish School District recently gathered for a full day of professional development focused on “The Future of STEM: Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core.” Hosted by Lincoln ACHIEVE, the day was coordinated and presented by Chris Campbell (Einstein Fellow from Simsboro High School), Missy Wooley (New Tech @ Ruston) and ACHIEVE Coordinator Cathi Cox-Boniol.
