Bo Duke in Ruston: Famed actor meets Mountain Man

Actor/singer John Schneider, most famous for playing “Bo Duke” on “The Dukes of Hazard” television series, was in the KXKZ radio studio Monday to serve as a guest on The Mountain Man Radio Show. Schneider and Mountain Man were signing T-shirts and pictures and accepting donations for a Farmerville boy suffering from Mitochondrial Disease.

Daily Leader takes home 26 awards

The Ruston Daily Leader continued its tradition of excellence, when the Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press Managing Editors announced the winners of its annual writing, photography and digital contest.
The Daily Leader took home a total of 26 awards, with nine of those being first places. Daily Leader staff members took home awards in a wide range of areas from editorials and columns to continuing coverage and sports writing.
The awards were presented during the annual awards banquet, which was held at the University of Mississippi this year.

Suspect still at large

GSUPD continues to investigate shooting

Grambling State University police are searching for a suspect they believe shot three GSU students Monday night.
Will Sutton, university spokesman, said after reviewing video from safety cameras posted around the university, the GSUPD believes it has identified a man who is most likely the person to have pulled the gun trigger that sent the three students to the hospital on Monday night.
University police said that the 7:14 p.m. Monday incident was an isolated occurrence resulting from an altercation involving three or four GSU students and one or more people who are not students.

Napper selected for V.P. position

Pending approval, dean to fill Guice’s spot

Stan Napper, Jack Thigpen Professor of Biomedical Engineering and dean of the College of Engineering and Science at Louisiana Tech University, has been selected to serve as the university’s next vice president for research and development.
Pending approval from the University of Louisiana System’s Board of Supervisors, Napper will assume his new role as vice president on July 1, replacing Les Guice who will officially become Louisiana Tech’s 14th president on that same date.

GSU newspaper wins journalism awards

in

Grambling State University’s campus newspaper, The Gramblinite, received nine awards during the Society of Professional Journalists Region 12 Mark of Excellence Awards earlier this month.
The Gramblinite won five first place awards, including first place for Best All Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper.
