Cedar Creek High School didn’t waste any time proving its No. 1 power ranking and seeding in the Class 1A Louisiana High School Athletic Association softball playoffs on Monday afternoon.
In a bi-district round game on their own field, the Lady Cougars (26-2) cruised to a 12-1 victory over Northwood-Lena (8-13).

Bulldogs give fans optimism

Louisiana Tech University’s 2013 football season won’t kick off for several more months.
But judging from last weekend’s “T-Day” spring game, Bulldogs’ fans are eager to get the program’s first year in Conference USA under way.
An estimated 2,500 Tech fans were in attendance at the two-hour contest that officially closed out 15 sessions of spring drills.
They were enthusiastic from the get-go and, most importantly, optimistic about what new Head Coach Skip Holtz and his team have in the works for the upcoming season.

Great potential for Fed Building

Stockton, Gary NEW.jpg

This is the time of the year that I will usually write about home gardening or lawn care. Seems that is what most people want to hear about when the weather starts to warm up. Invigorated after break

Degrie, Elizabeth (New).jpg

I will admit that some days, I don’t want to climb out of my comfortable bed and trek to work in the morning.
While I love being a journalist — it is one of the most interesting jobs I think one could choose to have — there are of course days I’d rather drive off into the sunset and take an adventure.
Well, this past weekend, because the reporters (myself included) at the Ruston Daily Leader managed to rack up several first, second and third place awards in the annual Louisiana/Mississippi Associated Press Managing Editor’s competition, I had the chance to do just that.

Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded around 3:36 p.m. Sunday to a two vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 20 about 10 miles west of Ruston that claimed the life of a Shreveport woman.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Saturn SL, driven by 19-year-old Sylesia Howard of Shreveport, was traveling west on Interstate 20 in the left lane when an unknown vehicle that was traveling west in the right lane swerved into the path of the Saturn.
