Molly Butler exhibition at the Dixie Center

North Central Louisiana Arts Council to show painter’s works

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council is pleased to announce an exhibit of work by painter Molly Butler at the Dixie Center for the Arts. Butler, winner of Best in Show at this year’s Peach Art Exhibit, was awarded this solo exhibition as part of her prize.
Her exhibition will be on display from now until Oct. 28, in the Dixie Center for the Arts.
Butler is a junior in the School of Design at Louisiana Tech University, from Eros.

Quota president attend international convention

Quota of Ruston President Lynn Hutchinson, was selected to represent the United States by serving as the USA flag bearer at the Quota International convention in Brisbane, Australia. The convention was attended by Quota members from around the globe.

Congratulations Tech graduates

Summer is over at Louisiana Tech University. It officially ended today when 266 students walked across the stage in the Thomas Assembly Center, accepted their diplomas from university administrators and joined ranks with the almost 100,000 men and women who are Tech alumni.
But as with every ending, beginnings are right behind. Even as Tech closed out it summer term today, it’s getting ready for the new term that begins Sept. 7.

Good deeds help flood victims

“It just kept coming.”
That’s how my friend described floodwaters rising to six inches in his Livingston Parish childhood home.
I have heard this chilling statement many times. In fact, it haunts me — as I’m sure it does many Louisiana residents.
A family friend said verbatim the same statement to me after Hurricane Katrina flooded her home. Another friend in Monroe described their house flooding earlier this year in the same way.
Here we are again.
More than 630 inches of rain passed through southeast Louisiana and Mississippi from Aug. 10-14 flooding thousands of homes.

Tech’s Sloan an ace of a student athlete

The first test Kathryn Sloan ever took when she arrived to play soccer at Louisiana Tech was the annual preseason fitness test given by head coach Kevin Sherry.
To pass you have to complete the following:
• Run 115 yards in 20 seconds and back 115 yards in 30 seconds
• Rest 30 seconds
• Run 6x40 yard shuttles in 60 seconds
• Rest 75 seconds
• Repeat five times
Sloan did not pass that test, but the senior has yet to fail another one since her freshman season.

Marie Roberts

Marie “Christine” Roberts was born October 3, 1953 and died on July 22 in Lexington, Kentucky.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 20 at 10am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her father Donald Roberts and a sister Maribeth Heurtevant.

Left to cherish her memory is her mother Anne Marie Roberts, her siblings: her twin Therese Spurgeon (Roland), Kathleen Acree, Susan Cline (Chip), Robert Roberts, Anne Marie Whitehurst (Paul), and hosts of nieces and nephews.
